Strategy Director


Strategy Directors at AF are partners to our senior clients on our most important accounts. They are equally well versed in Brand, Business & Digital thinking. They ensure our clients long-term digital strategy and biggest projects are differentiated, innovative and effective.

They bring powerful thinking, and the experience and skills to champion great ideas that use digital to make the analog world better through digital. They sell the value of strategic planning internally and to the client.


  • Lead research & insight development that unlocks innovative opportunities 
  • Lead development of differentiated, innovative & effective digital strategies
  • Ensure that both client and internal teams fully understand strategic direction for accounts
  • Ensure that our work delivers against our clients goals (and that learnings are taken from any failures)
  • Be the escalation point for all strategic matters on their account (internal & external)
  • Support Head of Strategy in developing and improving tools & frameworks
  • Support Head of strategy by managing & mentoring other strategists
  • Act as a thought leader about the direction of digital culture and marketing

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Deep understanding of our clients’ business, their consumers and their marketplace.
  • Expert understanding of brands and branding 
  • Grasp of the major business models
  • Complete understanding of the AF product offering (Platforms, Products, Content, Spaces)
  • Deep, expert knowledge of at least one of our 4 key pillars
  • Complete knowledge of AF strategic process & playbook
  • Comfortable with all digital & key business measurement approaches
  • Keeps up-to-date with digital innovation and new digital platforms
  • Identify and recommend innovative research methodologies.


Problem solving & insight development

  • Can confidently discuss relevant business challenges with client
  • Excellent at defining and reframing problems
  • Can create, and support others in creating insights that guide strategic plans

Idea development

  • Able to write succinct, inspirational briefs for any of our product areas
  • Run inspirational and effective creative briefing sessions.
  • Ability to sensitively provide feedback to give clear direction, provide additional stimulus and push work to be the best it can be
  • Collaborate in writing rationales, and business cases if needed, to aid client sell-in.
  • Works to keep the team motivated and excited about the creative opportunity
  • Leads collaboration within cross-functional teams throughout projects. 


  • Support clients & data team to educate client & internal teams on best practice digital measurement
  • Be able to create measurement frameworks for campaigns or over-arching strategies.
  • Understand the difference in and when to use qualitative, quantitative and panel data, online surveys and other methodologies.
  • Works with the data / analytics team to define measurement frameworks for projects they are strategically leading
  • Identify and develop opportunities to develop strategic services for clients e.g. Data

Presentation Skills

  • Skilled storytellers, able to write and present innovative strategies and ideas to clients or wider industry
  • Verbal communication skills; getting your point across in a clear and concise manner
  • Effectively listen to the other points being made in the room and react accordingly.
  • Inspiring and persuasive when presenting to senior clients
  • Ability to motivate those around them to deliver against the strategy
  • Able to conceive and run workshops


  • Excellent working relationships with clients, be someone clients want at the top table
  • Excellent working relationships with all internal departments
  • Lead collaborative relationship with senior staff in Creative, Content, Data and UX teams

 Qualifications & Experience 

  • 7-10 years experience in digital agencies, digital product development or digital marketing
  • Extensive experience of developing strategic plan
  • Track record of successfully delivering effective strategic projects
  • Experienced in both content/comms/branding and at least one of digital product/platform/experience projects
